What a goalscoring run a former Newcastle United player is on at the moment.

Aleksandar Mitrovic left Newcastle in 2018 after never really making his mark on Tyneside.

The former Anderlecht hitman had his moments but, for the most part, he seemed to make headlines for the wrong reasons.

However, the Fulham striker has landed on his feet and now looks set to return to the Premier League a much more dangerous player.

The Serbia international scored his 31st Championship goal of the season this afternoon as the Cottagers edged out Hull City.

For context, this is the joint-highest any player has ever scored in England’s second tier – and the fact it’s only February suggests that the 27-year-old – who also has seven more than United – is going to decimate the record.

How much did Newcastle get for Mitrovic?

Ten days before Steve Bruce was hired as Magpies manager, Mitrovic was sold to the Londoners on a permanent basis for £27 million [Sky Sports].

The fact that Newcastle had no head coach at the time would indicate that it was sanctioned by previous owner Mike Ashley.

And to be fair, it looked a massive fee for someone who clearly had no future at St James’s Park.

However, it could prove to be an absolute bargain from Fulham’s perspective.

Promotion to the Premier League is worth nine figures to the Cottagers – who have an 11-point cushion in the Championship’s top two – and given Mitrovic’s influence in this team, he’s proving well worth the investment.

Under Marco Silva, the fiery striker has taken his game to new levels entirely.

And with a prolific first season back in the Premier League, he could command a bigger transfer fee next time around, given that he’s still only 27 and coming into the prime of his career.
