It’s no secret that Celtic have had some truly brilliant strikers in recent years.

Odsonne Edouard is the Hoops’ number nine at the moment but before him, there was Moussa Dembele.

Dembele scored 51 goals during a two-year spell at Celtic, before leaving for Lyon in 2018, but his absence hasn’t been felt hugely due to how lethal Edouard has been since then.

Callum McGregor has played alongside both at Parkhead but the Scotland international has intimated that Celtic still have a player who’s a better finisher than both.

McGregor has told The Record that Leigh Griffith is the most ruthless player he’s ever seen in front of goal, following the 30-year-old striker’s equaliser against Aberdeen on Wednesday night.

He said: “He absolutely has the quality, it is undoubted. He is the best finisher I have seen. He gets one chance and it is a goal. For him, it is to keep working hard, doing the right things every day and trying to get as much game time as possible.”

Is McGregor wrong? Well this is certainly a matter of opinion. But it’s worth pointing out that the Celtic midfielder might well have a very good point.

Dembele and Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos have both recorded 30-goal seasons in Scotland, but Griffiths scored a staggering 40 goals in all competitions during Ronny Deila’s last year in charge.

On form, Griffiths is an absolute machine and it’ll be fascinating to see if he can build on that goal at Pittodrie en route to getting a place on the plane for Euro 2020.
