Rodrigo has revealed how he researched Marcelo Bielsa before joining Leeds in a £26 million move from Valencia in August.
The Spain international told the Yorkshire Evening Post: ‘He’s a very good manager. Before I came here I spoke with some team-mates that had already worked with him before. I feel really comfortable.’
Rodrigo became the Yorkshire-based outfit’s club-record signing when he swapped the Mestalla for Elland Road over the summer.
It has been a slow start to life in Yorkshire for the ex-Bolton attacker, who has scored just one goal for Leeds – that strike did earn Bielsa a point against Manchester City, however.
In Rodrigo’s defence, his time at Elland Road has so far been disrupted by a positive Coronavirus test, which forced him out of the XI just when it looked like he was finding his feet.
It’s interesting to hear that the 29-year-old called some of Bielsa’s former players to get a gauge of how the Argentine operates as a manager.
If anything, that just goes to show the level of details Rodrigo aspires to obtain, and how he doesn’t like to rush into decisions without knowing the full picture.
That is admirable. Luckily for Leeds, Bielsa’s ex-players must’ve been praiseworthy of him if Rodrigo went ahead with the move.
The Spaniard is now available again following the end of the international break.
Leeds tackle Arsenal this Sunday, so it will be interesting to see if Rodrigo can net another goal against one of the Premier League’s big-hitters – permitting he features, of course.
