Reported Everton target Mohamed Camara has this weekend been spotted watching AS Monaco, with the RB Salzburg star set to sign for the Ligue 1 giants in the coming days.

According to French reports compiled by GFFN, the Mali international was seen watching Monaco’s league opener against Stade Rennais at the Stade Louis II, with the report stating that Camara is now likely to sign for Philippe Clement’s side just days after being reported with a move to Everton.

After the arrival of Amadou Onana, Frank Lampard is eager to bring another midfielder to Goodison Park this summer after a move to re-sign Idrissa Gueye from PSG collapsed, with the £26m-rated Camara viewed as an alternative to the 32-year-old Senegal international.

However, it now looks like Everton could miss out on the signing of Camara, with the youngster being spotted watching Monaco from the stands amid reports that the Salzburg talent could join the Ligue 1 side in the coming days, with manager Clement also admitting that another midfielder could be signed soon.

When asked about the possibility of Camara signing for Monaco, the Belgian coach told the press after their 1-1 draw in the league opener: “There are still rumours, it is clear, we have said that there is still another midfielder coming.”

Indeed, with Everton suffering another loss in the Premier League this weekend, news that Monaco could now beat the Merseyside club to the signing of Camara is the last thing Lampard would want to hear, especially with how ideal the 22-year-old could have been for the English side.

Camara is just one of many talents coming from Salzburg’s incredible production line, and for Everton, the midfielder could have been a brilliant long-term signing for the club as well as an ideal partner for Onana, yet it now looks like Monaco have swooped in to win the race for the Malian.

Whilst one could argue that Everton’s problems currently lie in the attack, a promising central midfielder with the potential to grow into something special would be welcome at Goodison, and Camara could have well been that player had the Toffees worked harder to sign the Salzburg star ahead of their Ligue 1 rivals.
