Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has endured quite a difficult season at Arsenal.
So far, the 31-year-old hitman has only managed three Premier League goals in 15 appearances.
When you consider how devastating he was for Arsenal last year and earlier, Aubameyang, who scored all four goals in their FA Cup semi-final and final wins over Manchester City and Chelsea last term, hasn’t been at the races this time around, for whatever reason.
But it seems like the former Borussia Dortmund striker remains in red-hot form behind the scenes at London Colney.
Long-serving goalkeper Matt Macey called time on his seven-and-a-half year spell in North London today by joining Hibernian on a permanent basis.
And the 26-year-old has revealed that Aubameyang is the player who sticks out in training, revealing that simply denying the star in training would be considered a successful session for him.
He said via The Standard: “I had some incredible experiences, especially on the road for some big games. You also get plenty of practice in training trying to save shots from some world class attackers.
“Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sticks out. He has a real killer instinct. In some sessions it can feel like a bonus just to save one or two of his shots.”
Aubameyang’s killer instinct has never been in question but for whatever reason, the same chances aren’t being fed to him in live matches.
Some Arsenal fans might argue that it’s Mesut Ozil’s omission which has led to the Gabon international getting less opportunities in front of goal, but Aubameyang was still scoring for fun during Project Restart, even when Ozil wasn’t around.
There is surely a deeper factor his dip in form, but the good news is that form is temporary and class is permanent – and supporters will be hoping that he reminds everybody of that adage sooner rather than later.
