Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou has said that James Maddison could score some of the goals that Harry Kane did for Spurs.
Ange Postecoglou has said, as quoted by Football.London, that he is very excited to have James Maddison in his Tottenham Hotspur squad.
The former Celtic boss has said that the England international playmaker is someone who can score goals and create chances for his teammates.
Postecoglou believes that Maddison could score some of the goals that star striker Harry Kane did.
According to BBC Sport, England international striker Kane is on the verge of leaving Tottenham for Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
Maddison joined Tottenham from Leicester in the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old has scored 43 goals and given 32 assists in 163 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
Kane has scored 213 goals and given 46 assists in 320 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
Ange Postecoglou has high expectations of Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison
Postecoglou said about Maddison: “He was one of the first pieces of business we did. He was available and I was really excited to bring him into the group, knowing what we needed to build here.
“And again, knowing if Harry was going to leave that’s a fair few goals walking out of the door and knowing you can’t just replace that with one player. An area of the club that needing bolstering was midfield threat in terms of goals, and that’s what Madders provides – goals and assists.
“If we’ve going to cover the fact that Harry’s gone and all the goals are leaving with him, we’re going to have to spread that out and Madders provides that.
“He’s been brilliant since he’s come in, he’s been outstanding. Not just in the games but in training and the way he’s embraced the club and developed in the football we want to play.”

Kane is one of the best strikers on the planet and is a world-class player.
It is going to be extremely tough for Tottenham to find a suitable replacement for the striker.
However, as Postecoglou has noted, Spurs could spread the goals around.
The attacking players, including Maddison, will have to chip in.
Now, of course, no one expects Maddison to bang in 20 league goals every season.
However, it would be great if the playmaker is able to find the back of the net 10 to 15 times in the Premier League.
After all, Maddison scored 10 goals and gave nine assists in the Premier League for Leicester last season.
In 2021-22, the playmaker scored 12 goals and provided eight assists in the league.
