Divock Origi has just received the clearest sign yet that he simply must quit Liverpool at some point during the summer transfer window.

Well, Jurgen Klopp giving him only 181 minutes of Premier League football last season should’ve indicated to the Belgian striker that he’s got no future on Merseyside.

But there was perhaps an even greater clue on Friday.

Liverpool took on Mainz in another pre-season friendly in Austria, winning 1-0.

And Origi, a £10 million signing in 2014, started on the bench but played the whole second half.

Who started ahead of him?

It wasn’t Roberto Firmino, or Diogo Jota, both of whom were given extended breaks due to Euro 2020 and the Copa America respectively.

Hell, it wasn’t even Takumi Minamino.

Instead of starting Origi up front, the Liverpool boss used Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as his main striker.

There’s been a bit of talk surrounding the former Arsenal man potentially playing up front next season but, for now, it is just an experiment.

For now, Oxlade-Chamberlain is a central midfielder at Liverpool and the fact that Klopp played a midfielder through the middle instead of Origi indicates that the German has already made his mind up about the latter.

At this point, there is nothing that Origi can do to save his career on Merseyside and if that doesn’t make him want to leave, nothing will.
