Aston Villa may have had an extra guest watching them in action against Newcastle on Saturday night because Morgan Sanson was left out of the Marseille squad that was beaten at Monaco.
The 26-year-old, who started Marseille’s 1-0 defeat to Lens last time out, was left out altogether for last night’s encounter, which only increases speculation that Aston Villa are about to sign him.
French outlet RMC have claimed that Sanson is due a medical in the 48 hours as a move to Villa Park edges closer.
As Sanson’s current side were falling to a defeat away from home, his potential next club were securing a quite comfortable 2-0 win at home to Newcastle.
Those three points moved Villa into the top-eight in the Premier League table with two games in hand on most of the teams above them.
But if the Frenchman does put pen-to-paper then he’s joining a side with some serious midfield talent.

John McGinn was suspended for the win against Newcastle yet his replacement, Marvelous Nakamba, put in a Man of the Match display.
For Villa’s trip to Burnley in midweek, Nakamba might find himself on the bench again, so it just goes to show the depth in quality Villa already have without Sanson’s services.
But that doesn’t mean that the box-to-box midfielder isn’t needed in B6.
