Liverpool target Sofyan Amrabat has failed to show up for training with Fiorentina in a dramatic deadline day development.

What’s the story?

Well, after the 26-year-old enjoyed a stunning World Cup campaign with Morocco, it was said that Liverpool wanted to sign him.

Foot Mercato in France even claimed that Amrabat wanted to join the Reds after Jürgen Klopp spoke to his representatives about a move to Anfield.

Therefore, the fact he has now decided to skip training with Fiorentina is a significant development.

Talk of a move to Liverpool has gone quiet in recent days, with Barcelona seemingly the side most active in their pursuit of Amrabat.

Fabrizio Romano believes the Spanish giants have made a bid to sign the African midfielder on loan for a €3m (£2.6m) fee, with an option to turn the deal permanent at the end of the season for €37m (£33m).

However, Fiorentina are not happy with this proposal, and have rejected the offer, which is understandable.

Perhaps if Barcelona had suggested an obligation to buy, then Fiorentina’s response would be different.

As things stand, Xavi’s side are basically asking to have a trial period with Amrabat for the price of £2.6m – we cannot see how they expected Fiorentina to be happy with that.

Liverpool must make a move for Amrabat

With Amrabat now actively pushing to leave Fiorentina ahead of today’s 11pm deadline, Liverpool must be encouraged to get involved.

The 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Brighton exposed Klopp’s poor midfield options tremendously, as their dominance fell apart when James Milner, Curtis Jones and Jordan Henderson entered the fray.

With Fabinho looking a fraction of his old self, and Thiago very prone to injuries, Liverpool must add at least one new midfielder before tonight’s deadline, or the second half of the campaign will surely be miserable for supporters.
