Aston Villa fans might’ve forgotten all about Callum Robinson.

Actually, some may not have even known that he was once on the books at Bodymoor Heath to begin with, having barely had a senior career there to begin with.

The 26-year-old left Aston Villa in 2016 to join Preston North End on a permanent basis.

But the attacker is certainly blazing a trail for himself these days – and that includes on the international scene.

Robinson is a full Republic of Ireland international and on Sunday, he scored twice in their 3-0 win away to Azerbaijan in World Cup qualifying.

His first of the evening was particularly special, with the former Aston Villa youth let fly from outside the box as his effort rifled into the top corner.

The Northampton-born hitman, who now plays for West Bromwich Albion, is clearly a very good player and also scored twice against Chelsea in the Premier League last season.

There may be some regret on Aston Villa’s part that he left for only a £170,000 compensation fee five years ago.

But there may also be a degree of pride among his youth coaches at Bodymoor Heath to see one of their products make a name for himself not only domestically, but for the Republic of Ireland, too.
