Gylfi Sigurdsson has flourished since leaving Tottenham Hotspur in 2014.
Gylfi Sigurdsson was on target once again for Swansea City in the Premier League this past weekend, with his side narrowly beaten by Manchester City.
The Icelandic international has been an integral player for the Swans since signing in 2014, with his performances deserving better reward than the 17th league position in which his side are currently situated.

Sigurdsson has been so good in fact, that his figures show he would be Tottenham Hotspur’s second best all round player since leaving the club, ranking second in terms of goals and assists.
Dimitri Payet signing could be bad news for Tottenham winger
Sigurdsson was sold in 2014, and has contributed an impressive 26 goals and 20 assists in Premier League competition alone.
Only Harry Kane, 60 goals, has outscored him – and by quite a distance, while Christian Eriksen is the only player to provide more assists.
| Team | Goals | Assists | Total | Appearances | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Harry Kane | Tottenham | 60 | 8 | 68 | 91 |
| Gylfi Sigurdsson | Swansea | 26 | 20 | 46 | 92 |
| Christian Eriksen | Tottenham | 21 | 23 | 44 | 96 |
| Dele Alli | Tottenham | 21 | 11 | 32 | 56 |
| Erik Lamela | Tottenham | 8 | 17 | 25 | 76 |
Eriksen is hot on Sigurdsson’s heels, but has played in four matches more than the Swansea ace, but it was his presence at Spurs which led to Tottenham selling him in the first place.
If Sigurdsson was still a Tottenham player, it is highly unlikely he would have played in 92 league matches over the past three seasons, and the move has been good for his career from an individual standpoint, saving him being wasted sat on the bench.

Last December, Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino was quoted in The Mirror describing the decision to sell Sigurdsson as a ‘shame’ because he is ‘perfect’ for his side, even though it was a transfer made while he was at the club.
With Swansea battling relegation, perhaps Tottenham would be shrewd to try and bring the former star back if the Welsh side do succumb to the drop?
