Rangers might want to consider a potential bargain for a long term target this summer.

Rangers need to rebuild this summer after a depressing season which has seen them slip 33 points behind Celtic.

How much money they have to spend remains questionable, which is why they should be on the lookout for a bargain free agent addition.

Perhaps the perfect option is French attacker Jimmy Briand, who is currently at Ligue 1 side Guingamp.

A £2.5 million move was touted, but Briand switched to Lyon instead where he would spend the next four years of his career.

Briand can play up front or out on the wing, making him a player who could play alongside another more prolific striker who the Gers could look to bring in.

He has nine goals this season, his best return since 2011/12 when he netted 14, while also providing four assists.

At 31 he still has plenty of football left in him, and has Champions League experience and five international caps for France.

Briand would lift the quality in the Rangers squad and increase competition. The Gers need players of his calibre if they are to start closing the gap on their bitter rivals – and a free transfer would make him an ideal acquisition.
