Well, Gabriel Jesus has clearly stepped up his game in a massive way since hearing that Arsenal reportedly want to sign him.
Last week, there were widespread reports that Arsenal were interested in signing the Manchester City hitman.
Journalist Jorge Nicola claimed that the Gunners were in advanced talks with the Brazil international about a summer move to the Emirates Stadium.
And later on, The Athletic reported that the North Londoners were favourites to sign the 25-year-old during the transfer window.
And if Arsenal were keen on, they’ll definitely be interested now.
That’s because Gabriel hasn’t stopped scoring since the speculation about a move to the Gunners broke.
Well, he’s only had two games, but both of those appearances yielded a total of five goals.
Last night, he found the net in an exciting 4-3 Champions League victory over Real Madrid, having scored four in a thumping win over Watford last weekend.
Are Arsenal signing Gabriel Jesus?
That’s certainly what the talk is about.
But you get the impression that Arsenal desperately need Champions League football.
Yahoo Sport claimed last week that Edu has now agreed personal terms with the player, but there’s still time for Gabriel to do a u-turn if the Gunners qualify for the Europa League.
Mikel Arteta’s side are fourth in the Premier League with five games to play.
They could and definitely should be back in the Champions League next season, but it’ll be a rollercoaster run-in and nothing will be decided until it’s mathematically assured.
But anyone capable of rattling off five goals within four days is going to want to be playing in Europe’s elite competition and that enhances the importance of Arsenal being able to offer it to him.
