Newcastle United reportedly want to bring Joe Worrall to the Premier League – but why would he leave Championship high-flyers Forest now?

Back in August 2014, Jamaal Lascelles left Nottingham Forest for Newcastle United. And, at the time, no one was questioning a highly-rated centre-back’s decision to leave a team who had finished 11th the previous campaign for one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.
Five years on, however, the goalposts have moved and Newcastle are facing a much more difficult task as they look to snap up another promising young defender who has risen through the ranks at the City Ground.
According to The Sun, The Magpies are planning a January swoop for Joe Worrall.

The 22-year-old is in the form of his life right now, forming an almost impenetrable partnership with the veteran Michael Dawson with Forest sitting second in the Championship, losing just two of their opening 11 games under Sabri Lamouchi.
For the first time in years, one of English football’s sleeping giants is stirring. A return to the Premier League, after two decades away, looks like a genuine possibility.
So why on earth would Worrall, a boyhood Forest fan, leave now for a Newcastle team who look set for a long struggle against relegation, notwithstanding a victory against Manchester United on Sunday?
Forest tied Worrall down to a long-term deal recently too. The power is in their hands and he’s certainly not going anywhere on the cheap this winter.
