Tottenham Hotspur made a big statement by hiring Antonio Conte this month.

Not only is the Italian a serial winner with four Serie A titles and a Premier League crown under his belt, but he’s also quite scary.

This is a floppy-haired, blue-eyed version of Roy Keane.

Conte’s zero-tolerance has been widely spoken about since taking the reins and Steven Bergwijn might be the first victim of this no-nonsense style of management.

No nonsense

The Dutch winger has not been included in the squad for tonight’s Europa Conference League trip away to Mura in Slovenia [Football London].

We know that Bergwijn was fit as recently as Sunday, where he looked a frustrated figure after not getting off the bench v Leeds United.

And it’s probable that his reaction to being an unused substitute has perhaps cost him a spot in the squad tonight.

Early marker

The former PSV winger, a £25 million signing under Mourinho, isn’t finished in North London if a non-injury reasons cost him a role in Maribor.

But this is a very early marker by Conte and one that reminds Bergwijn – and every Spurs player – who the boss is.
