Georginio Wijnaldum has taken to Twitter to reveal that he’ll keep doing Virgil van Dijk’s celebration until the Liverpool centre-back returns from injury.

The ex-Newcastle man – who cost Liverpool £25 million – scored twice for the Netherlands against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Sunday, and celebrated in tribute to the ex-Celtic defender.

Wijnaldum has been handed the captaincy for his country by Frank de Boer in Van Dijk’s absence, and he marked his first game with the armband by downing Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to WhoScored, the 30-year-old had three shots on target, and also made two key passes in the 3-1 win on Sunday.

Wijnaldum also completed 95.2% of his passes.

It’s nice to see the Liverpool No.5 keep a trademark of Van Dijk’s alive while the £75 million man is injured.

As of now, the Reds have been reluctant to put a timeframe on the 29-year-old’s return.

The latest major update on his injury was the revelation that Van Dijk had undergone successful knee surgery, and has now begun his rehabilitation regime as Sky Sports reported.

While no side would want to lose the reigning UEFA Best Player in Europe, Jurgen Klopp’s side have done well so far without the Dutchman.

Liverpool have won five and drawn one of the six games since Van Dijk suffered his injury in the Merseyside derby against Everton.
