Renato Sanches has posted an intriguing message on Instagram after impressing in Lille’s defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League amid reports Arsenal are interested. Gunners star Gabriel has responded.
The French club’s no.10 has reignited his career at Ligue 1 side Lille. Having fallen by the wayside after an early move to Bayern Munich, he joined Lille in the summer of 2019 – and has since clocked up a huge 81 appearances.
He also starred at last summer’s Euro 2020, arguably being Portugal’s best player. Despite all of that, Lille have allowed him to enter the last 18 months of his contract – and Arsenal are being linked with a bargain move.
Indeed, Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport reported only this week that the Gunners are weighing up a summer move for Sanches to bolster their midfield. A fee of £25million is expected to be enough for the midfielder.
Despite a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea earlier this week, Sanches was excellent for his Lille side – and he posted a mysterious message on Instagram after the match. Perhaps, a message to potential suitors such as Arsenal.
Sanches message: Arsenal star Gabriel responds to Gunners target
Arsenal do need a midfielder. While Roma might not decide to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles permanently, the England international is unlikely to remain at The Emirates beyond the summer. Mo Elneny is out of contract in June.
It will leave the Gunners with just Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and Albert Sambi Lokonga. Xhaka has also been linked, once again, with a move to Roma. Sanches is needed. Gabriel applauded his ex-Lille teammate’s display.
