Will Tottenham Hotspur chairman be suckered into paying over the odds for Richarlison? Don’t bet on it.

Brazilian attacker Richarlison looks like one of the signings of the season by Watford, with the attacker inspiring a victory over West Ham at the weekend.

His sensational form has seen him linked with a January move, with The Mirror first claiming Tottenham want to sign him.

A further few days of speculation and a goal at the weekend has prompted another wave of rumours, with Arsenal entering the race according to The Star.

While Spurs will not want to lose out to their rivals, finances suggest they could end up walking away.

Richarlison signed for Watford for £11.5 million, and The Star’s report claims he would now cost £25 million.

If he continues his current form, then the speculation will not stop there.

The Sun report Chelsea are in the hunt, another potentially formidable transfer market competitor for Spurs.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea could offer superior wages to Tottenham, while normally prudent chairman Daniel Levy will not want to be drawn into a bidding war.

£25 million it could be argued is fair value for Richarlison, but if his form continues and teams’ interest heightens, that will become £30m, £35m, even more.

It would be no surprise to see Levy walk away from spending that much on the impressive South American.
