Speaking on Sky Sports’ YouTube channel, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has opened up on his feelings about Tottenham Hotspur.

As you can imagine, Aubameyang didn’t have the kindest words for Spurs. After all, he is the captain of Arsenal.

He even went as far as to say he’d rather retire than join Tottenham.

However, the Gabon international did admit that he almost signed for Tottenham a few years ago.

What’s been said?

Aubameyang was asked whether he’d rather retire or join Spurs.

“Retire. Even more because a couple of years ago, a few years ago. I was close to signing for Tottenham, but I don’t know what they did, so now I’d retire for sure. It was when I was at Saint-Etienne. I came here I went to the stadium as well at White Hart Lane, but the day later they never called back, so I was like ‘ok, no worries’,” Aubameyang said.

Could you imagine

Could you imagine if Tottenham had signed Aubameyang? What would the world of football look like right now?

Would Aubameyang’s influence have been enough to get Tottenham over the line in the 2019 Champions League final? Would his goals have been enough to win them a Premier League title under Mauricio Pochettino? Who knows.

Arsenal certainly benefitted from Spurs’ decision to not sign Aubameyang, but this has to go down as one of football’s great ‘what ifs’.

The £250,000-a-week Arsenal star could very easily have been a Tottenham man instead.
