Jose Enrique thinks it’s time Liverpool sold Joe Gomez in the summer and he backed the idea of the centre-back joining Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United.
Like many players at Anfield, it has been a season of real struggle for Joe Gomez, who hasn’t looked the same since the long-term knee injury he suffered in 2020.
Come the summer, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the 25-year-old possibly heads for the exit door, with Newcastle expressing interest in the player last summer.

Whilst the Magpies didn’t get Gomez, they did bring in their much-needed centre-half, with Sven Botman arriving from Lille, after Dan Burn’s arrival last January.
Well, fast forward to the summer transfer market, there are now calls for Joe Gomez to leave.
Whether it’s St James’ Park, elsewhere in the Premier League or abroad, Enrique thinks Gomez is worth ‘£25 million’, as he also spoke about a possible Newcastle transfer, as he told his YouTube channel.
“I played with (Joe) Gomez and I love Gomez,” said Enrique. “But it’s time for him to go. I would keep (Nat) Phillips ahead of Gomez.
“If you want to play high up the pitch, then he (Phillips) isn’t quick enough, but Gomez is fast – if they come with the right amount of money for Gomez, then maybe it’s the time for him to move on. It will be good for Gomez as well.
On possible Newcastle move: “They have Botman and Schar. Yes (he could start for Newcastle), but if he’s at the top of his game, then he could fight for a place in our team.
“If they come for the right money for Gomez, then yes. If the money isn’t good enough, then I will keep Gomez over Phillips.
“£25 million. He is worth it, for that money. He is 25. He has won everything as well. An amazing age, so maybe it’s time to move on.”

TIME FOR GOMEZ TO MOVE ON
Whilst a move to Newcastle would be very good for Gomez because a manager like Eddie Howe would get the best out of him and suit his game.
At the end of the day, it’s not what he needs now because he is crying out for regular starts, not joining a team that has one of the best defences in the Premier League and a place where he will perhaps start from the bench.
It might just be the case that Gomez has to bite the bullet and move to a team that’s not competing near the top or even in Europe.
