Tottenham defender Serge Aurier has a lot to prove.

Tottenham Hotspur splashed out £24 million to sign Serge Aurier last summer as a replacement for Kyle Walker.
Bemusingly they did not need to spend it at all, with Kieran Trippier easily outperforming him.
Trippier’s value has soared after his World Cup performances, and with England under-20 World Cup winner Kyle Walker-Peters waiting for his chance, it is difficult to see where Aurier fits in.
Unless of course, Daniel Levy is one step ahead of everybody.
Perhaps he foresaw Trippier’s ascendance to becoming a World Cup star?

As a result of his performance, Real Madrid are keen on a deal for Trippier, with The Sun reporting the Spanish giants are eyeing a £50 million bid.
Trippier being sold would enrage fans, but from a football perspective, Tottenham have the capability to succeed without him.
This would be dependent on either Aurier raising his game, or Walker-Peters stepping up, but one is very possible.
If Spurs do sell Trippier, a replacement won’t be needed, and Aurier’s addition will begin to make a little more sense.
