Moise Kean is already facing a battle to win over his doubters at Juventus with Serie A legend Christian Vieri feeling that Mauro Icardi should have been targeted instead, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport.

If any footballer epitomises the pits and troughs of elite-level sport, its Moise Kean.

Two years ago, he was breaking records left, right and centre at Juve, helping fire the Old Lady to Serie A glory before completing a £27 million move to Goodison Park.

Four goals in just 39 games at Everton took a sledgehammer to the striker’s burgeoning reputation, however, with a prolific loan spell at Paris Saint-Germain not enough to see Kean dislodge Dominic Calvert-Lewin as the Toffees’ first-choice number nine.

And, when the opportunity arose, Everton jumped at the chance to send Kean back to where it all began.

Just days after seeing red – quite literally – in an EFL Cup clash with Huddersfield Town, the Italy international was putting pen to paper with Juventus again, praying that a return to familiar surrounding will give his stalling career the jump-start it needs.

Can Moise Kean thrive away from Everton?

But if Vieri had his way, PSG poacher Mauro Icardi would have arrived on deadline day instead, the former Italy international concnered that Kean will fail to fill a Cristiano Ronaldo-shaped void in Max Allegri’s misfiring frontline.

“Now, I put Inter Milan in front (favourites for the title). Cristiano’s 25-30 goals are gone,” laments Vieri.

“Kean’s return and Icardi’s non-arrival? I don’t think Kean will be able to score so many, but I think it’s right to give him an entire season to judge him.

“Icardi is one who contributes little in the build-up but he is a finisher by trade. Maybe I would have gone stronger on him.”

Kean has joined Juventus on an initial loan deal, complete with a £24 million option to buy clause, according to Sky Sports.

It is worth pointing out, however, that Kean kept Icardi out of the PSG XI for much of last season…
