Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman has suffered what appeared to be a ‘bad injury’ in training today.

Alfie Whiteman could face a period on the sidelines after picking up a nasty injury in Tottenham Hotspur training.

Spurs are gearing up for another pre-season friendly as they take on Lion City Sailors on Wednesday.

Sunday’s friendly with Leicester City was postponed, meaning Ange Postecoglou will be desperate to get some minutes into the legs of his players against Lion City Sailors.

Tottenham players were put through their paces on Tuesday but one Spurs player suffered an injury blow.

Football London’s Alasdair Gold reported on Twitter that goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman suffered a ‘bad injury’ in training.

Gold noted that Whiteman was stretchered off and looked to be in ‘a lot of pain’ as he left the field.

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare adds that the issue is an ankle injury and the goalkeeper now faces a wait to learn the extent of the problem.

Alfie Whiteman injury a cruel blow at the worst possible time

This is the time when all Tottenham players are desperate to impress Postecoglou and prove that they deserve to stay at Spurs.

Whiteman will certainly have been one of them after spending a long time out on loan.

The 24-year-old joined Swedish side Degefors on loan in August 2021 and stayed there until December 2021, before returning to Degefors again in February 2022 until December 2022.

That’s pretty much 18 months way from Spurs, and Whiteman only featured in 17 league games across his two spells with Degefors.

Tottenham still decided to give Whiteman a new deal in February, tying him to the club until 2025.

With Hugo Lloris on his way out and Fraser Forster unavailable, this was a real chance for Whiteman to prove that he can stick around as a third-choice stopper at Spurs – or even higher in the ranks.

Sadly, Whiteman now faces a period on the sidelines and we can only hope that he isn’t out for too long as he seeks to prove himself under Postecoglou.
