Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing the Lyon ace.
Reported Liverpool target Nabil Fekir sat down for an exclusive interview with French media outlet L’Equipe, and shared what Lyon’s president Jean-Michel Aulas told him about his future when he signed a contract with the Ligue 1 outfit.
According to the Mirror, Jürgen Klopp has identified the 24-year-old as one of his primary summer transfer targets, and views him as the ideal replacement for the recently departed Philippe Coutinho.
The France international has been in sensational form for Lyon this season, chalking up an impressive 22 goals and seven assists from 38 appearances in all competitions thus far.
Fekir can operate anywhere along the front-line, and his creative guile in and around the penalty area would provide the Reds with that little bit of magic they lost when Coutinho left Anfield in January.
The Lyon ace spoke exclusively to L’Equipe about his future, and left the door open to a move to Merseyside this summer, suggesting that Aulas has always made it clear to him that he is free to leave if he so wishes:
“The president told me, like he told everyone else when they signed their contracts, that we have the possibility to talk whenever I want to leave. Nobody signs for life in a club. It doesn’t work like that.”
Quite where Fekir will be plying his trade next season remains to be seen, but if the Reds come in with a concrete offer for his services this summer, it is hard to envisage a scenario where he remains in France.
