Taking the decision to quit Liverpool is a big one – a huge one.
The Reds won the Premier League last summer and the Champions League in 2019, so deciding to leave takes a lot of guts.
But one player – Pedro Chirivella – has revealed that he’s ‘very satisfied’ with his decision to go.
The 24-year-old left Liverpool to join Nantes on a free transfer last summer but Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards wanted him to stay, evident by the contract offer that the Spaniard rejected.
Chirivella was on the Anfield club’s books since 2013 but had only managed one Premier League appearance for the club.
Last season in Ligue 1, he managed in 32.
Here’s what the player told Radio Esport Valencia: “I am very satisfied on a personal level because it has been a year where I have grown a lot as a footballer. It is true that in the last season at Liverpool I played some games, but in the end it was only once a month.”
Improvement
At 24, there is plenty of room for Chirivella to grow as a player and ultimately improve.
It’s doubtful that Liverpool will ever find themselves rueing the fact that he left, because one of the reasons why he didn’t want to stay was because he wasn’t good enough for regular football under Klopp in the first place.
But he’s certainly making a name for himself in Ligue 1 and who knows, another, more productive spell in the Premier League may come at some point in the future, just not at Liverpool.
