Alfredo Morelos was the hero for Rangers on Thursday night.
Despite the odds stacked against them, the Gers pulled off a brilliant 1-0 win over Alaskhert in the first leg of a Europa League qualifier at Ibrox.
Rangers were favourites before the game but a first-half red card for John Lundstram made it an uphill task for Steven Gerrard’s side.
And yet the Colombian, as he so often has since 2017, came to the light Blues’ rescue, scoring midway through the second half to secure a narrow in.
Here’s how Jordan Thompson – released by the Rangers boss shortly after his arrival in 2018 – reacted to Morelos’s goal on Twitter:
Rangers still have it all to do.
This goal is only a very narrow advantage and Gerrard will know that his troops have a major 90 minutes ahead of them next week.
Despite cruising to Premiership glory last season, the Scot have been very erratic so far in the 2021-22 campaign and even with this one-goal lead, no fan of the Ibrox club would be putting the mortage on progression into the group phase.
