Croatia have, once again, been the surprise package of the World Cup.
The Balkan nation have upset all of the odds to reach a semi-final once more, and there have been more than a few standout performers in their team.
As you may imagine, Croatia’s defence has carried them through this tournament so far. They have only scored six goals in their five matches – with four of those coming in one game, but their ability to keep the ball out of the back of the net has seen them through.
The likes of Josko Gvardiol and Josip Juranovic has been shining and are being linked with big moves, and there’s one Croatian defender who we believe could be Liverpool-bound.
We’re talking about Borna Sosa.
The 24-year-old left-back would be a brilliant fit for the Reds, and recent reports do indicate that he could well garner attention from the Anfield outfit in the near future.
Indeed, with Liverpool reportedly eyeing Sven Mislintat as their new Sporting Director, a move for Sosa would make the world of sense. After all, he knows the player well from their time together at Stuttgart.
A look at the stats tells you why Sosa would be such a great fit for Liverpool.
He’s made three tackles and four clearances per game during this World Cup – showcasing his defensive acumen, and while his attacking skills haven’t been on show at this tournament – he’s been incredibly creative domestically.
He’s grabbed 17 league assists over the last two seasons, and he’s on track to get double-figures this term, grabbing five assists in 12 games so far this term.
With Kostas Tsimikas being linked with a move away from the club, a new left-back could be needed at Anfield, and if Mislintat does come in, don’t be surprised if Sosa is targeted.
