Lucas Torreira has suggested that he might not want to come back to Arsenal.
The Uruguay international joined Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan a little earlier this month, with Thomas Partey swapping the Spanish giants for the Gunners in a separate deal.
And the pint-sized midfielder enjoyed a brilliant debut for the Spanish giants last weekend, earning praise from Diego Simeone afterwards.
The 24-year-old, who joined Arsenal in the summer of 2018, enjoyed a brilliant first year in North London under Unai Emery.
But last season was decimated by a loss of form and fitness.
And Torreira has told Ovacion that he might just want to stay with Atletico – who have the option to sign him permanently next summer – for the long term.
He said: “I know that I am a year on loan. I’ve been there for four or five days and it seems like it’s a lot, because I’ve been treated very well. It all depends on how I go during the season, which I hope is very good, and maybe in the future I can stay in the club.”
If Partey turns out to be a star at Arsenal, Torreira will be forgotten about very quickly.
Both the Ghanaian powerhouse and Torreira are similar players and the former enjoyed a superb full debut in last night’s win away to Rapid Vienna.
The South American needed a change but it looks like this might work out well for all parties, so to speak.
