According to Christian Falk, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on a summer move for Stuttgart left-back Borna Sosa.
The Croatian has been linked to Spurs amid reported interest from Real Madrid in Sergio Reguilon, and while the 24-year-old may end up replacing Reguilon in the Tottenham XI, he could actually end up being the spiritual successor to Kieran Trippier.
Indeed, while he plays on the opposite side to Trippier, he possesses a number of the same qualities as the Englishman, mainly in his ability to deliver the ball from deep and his set-piece prowess.
Back in the 2019/20 season Sosa registered no fewer than nine assists for Stuttgart, while he already has five to his name this time around.
Interestingly, Sosa has previously been compared to England legend David Beckham by Stuttgart’s Sporting Director, and many Spurs fans will remember similar being said about Trippier during his time in north London.
Trippier quickly became known as ‘the Bury Beckham’ due to his incredible ability to strike a ball and cross from deep, and Sosa could end up being something of a Balkan Becks for Spurs.
Of course, this isn’t a like-for-like replacement, Sosa is a left-footer, while Trippier predominantly plays down the right – despite Gareth Southgate’s recent efforts.
However, Spurs haven’t had a wide player who can provide those pin-point crosses since Trippier’s departure, while their set-piece output has been poor ever since Christian Eriksen was sold to Inter.
Sosa may play on the opposite side to Trippier, but he could end up acting as his perfect replacement by playing a similar role.
