It’s always sad to see an Academy gem break into the first-team but struggle to stay there, which is what happened with Andre Green at Aston Villa.

The 23-year-old joined Sheffield Wednesday in January 2021, but things didn’t exactly work out at Hillsborough either.

Green was then sold to Slovan Bratislava, where he is starting to find his feet in the footballing world.

What’s the story?

Well, after Dean Smith released him, Green is now top scorer in a UEFA European competition – quite the rise.

The Solihull-born forward has netted four goals in the UEFA Conference League this season, in just four appearances.

Green also has one assist to his name.

Interestingly, Harry Kane is also partaking in the UEFA Conference League, but has only managed to score three goals so far.

Green also scored for Slovan Bratislava in their Europa League qualifying match against Olympiacos, which they sadly lost.

Should Aston Villa have kept Andre Green?

Despite his excellent form in Europa for the Slovakian outfit, the Villans were right to part ways with Green.

Slovakian football is vastly different to the Premier League, and with all due respect to the division, it feels unlikely that Green would be able to replicate his heroics in England.

Having said that, it’s only in Europe where Green is thriving – he’s actually struggling a fair bit in the Fortuna Liga.

In eight appearances this season, the Englishman is yet to score a single goal.

Hopefully, Green can soon replicate his UEFA Conference League heroics domestically for Slovan Bratislava.
