It looks like Cristian Romero to Tottenham Hotspur could be announced imminently.
Well, it’s been like this for a few days, following a lot of speculation that he was close to joining Spurs.
But there’s been an even bigger development after the Argentina international posted a heartfelt farewell to Atalanta on Instagram, thanking the Italian club.
Here’s what Romero posted on social media:
Confirm?
Reading this, it looks like Romero has effectively confirmed his move to North London even before the Premier League side.
The 23-year-old will be joining the Lilywhites for an initial £47 million.
Even better, it looks like he’ll be available to face Manchester City in Tottenham’s Premier League opener next weekend.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side host the reigning champions on Sunday week and The Standard reported today that Romero – who has been vaccinated – could be eligible for an early debut due to the fact that he does not have to quarantine after arriving from Italy.
The South American will replace Toby Alderweireld at Tottenham but given how poor the North Londoners’ defence was last season, it would be a surprise if Romero is the only centre-back to join under Fabio Paratici this summer.
