Tottenham’s Nabil Bentaleb has been outstanding this season, but there is one area he really needs to improve on.
Nabil Bentaleb has been outstanding this season, flourishing for Tottenham Hotspur under Mauricio Pochettino.
His passing, tackling, and reading of the game has seen him emerge as a must pick in midfield. His shooting however, not so much.
The midfielder is still without a Premier League goal this season in 21 appearances, and it is not difficult to see why, for he rarely troubles the goalkeeper.
He had three attempts against Newcastle at the weekend, failing to hit the target with any of them, and it was not a one off.
| Total Shots | Shots On Target | Goals | Appearances | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nabil Bentaleb | 23 | 5 | 0 | 21 |
Bentaleb has managed only five shots on target, and of all of Tottenham’s players to attempt 15 or more shots in the Premier League this season, it is the lowest rate of accuracy.
| Total Shots | Shots On Target | Goals | On Target Shooting Accuracy | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Emmanuel Adebayor | 19 | 10 | 2 | 53% |
| Andros Townsend | 16 | 8 | 2 | 50% |
| Harry Kane | 92 | 42 | 20 | 46% |
| Nacer Chadli | 45 | 20 | 9 | 44% |
| Roberto Soldado | 20 | 7 | 1 | 35% |
| Ryan Mason | 36 | 12 | 1 | 33% |
| Danny Rose | 22 | 6 | 2 | 27% |
| Christian Eriksen | 92 | 25 | 10 | 27% |
| Erik Lamela | 30 | 8 | 1 | 27% |
| Nabil Bentaleb | 23 | 5 | 0 | 22% |
The two names at the top of the list are among the most surprising, especially Andros Townsend, who last season carved out a reputation for his scatter gun style shooting.
Unsurprisingly Bentaleb is the only one on the list not to score, but Christian Eriksen’s improvement of just five per cent suggests to the Algerian that practise makes perfect, having attempted 92 shots on his way to scoring 10 league goals.
