Aston Villa target Ollie Watkins has been left out of Brentford’s squad for their friendly game against Oxford United, as his move seemingly edges closer.
The Sun claimed that Villa were now ‘likely’ to seal a deal worth £22 million for Watkins in the near future.
And it seems that the transfer could well be getting closer, as Watkins was nowhere to be seen in Brentford’s squad today.
The Villa target missed out on playing, with his replacement Ivan Toney picked to start against Oxford United.

All the signs now point towards Watkins potentially leaving, especially as Brentford confirmed that the absence of David Raya was down to an injury, but they had nothing to say about Watkins’s omission.
If Watkins does arrive at Villa it is likely to cause great excitement for Dean Smith’s side, as he could be the goalscorer that they were desperately lacking last season.
Watkins blasted in 26 goals in the Championship, and now looks ready to cope with the step up to playing at the top level.
