At the start of the summer, Liverpool lost out to Bayern Munich as they attempted to sign Ryan Gravenberch from Ajax.

The Netherlands international opted to join the Bavarians over the Reds as he sealed a €25m (£22m) move to the Allianz Arena, where Sadio Mane would follow him not long afterwards.

It looked to be a great bit of business for Bayern Munich, given the fact that Gravenberch is one of the most precocious talents in Europe at the age of just 20.

However, the Dutchman has now admitted his disappointment at life in Germany.

What’s the story?

Well, Gravenberch has told ESPN that he was “hoping” to play more under Julian Nagelsmann in Munich, having only received 106 minutes of Bundesliga action across five appearances.

After being dropped by Louis van Gaal and named in the Netherlands Under-21 squad instead, the Bayern Munich No.38 said: “To be honest, yes I am (disappointed at lack of game time). You want to play but the manager is picking other players. I have to accept it but it’s difficult. I was hoping for more minutes but I have to stay calm.”

It is starting to look as if a move to Liverpool would’ve been the more sensible option for Gravenberch.

To make matters worse, his replacement at Ajax – Kenneth Taylor – has been named in the senior Netherlands squad instead of him, rubbing salt in the wounds.

Liverpool should try again for Ryan Gravenberch

The Ajax academy graduate is a fantastic prospect, and we feel he should be playing more at Bayern Munich.

Therefore, with the midfield department at Liverpool in serious need of strengthening, we believe Jürgen Klopp should make another move for Gravenberch if the youngster’s situation doesn’t change before January.

The Reds are set to lose James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita in July 2023 when the trio’s contracts expire, so a move for Gravenberch would by no means be a luxury signing, but more of a necessity.

Under Klopp, we firmly believe the Dutch sensation would fulfil his potential.
