Rangers supporters would’ve been hoping one of their old players could’ve done them a favour against Celtic on Sunday.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be.

Celtic preserved their 100 percent start to the Scottish Premiership season with a 9-0 demolition at Dundee United yesterday afternoon.

Rangers sold Glenn Middleton to the club earlier in 2022 but unfortunately, the 22-year-old, like every single one of his teammates, was powerless to stop Ange Postecoglou’s outfit from marching toward a fifth-straight victory.

The Scottish attacker struggled in a major way, registering only 14 touches throughout his 62 minutes on the field [WhoScored].

Being a forward player, it’s understandable that Middleton – who spent four years on the Ibrox outfit’s books – struggled so much to touch the ball because, well, nobody for the home team was in possession for very long, evident by the scoreline.

There’s no doubt that Middleton’s career hasn’t progressed as it looked like it might under Steven Gerrard once upon a time.

The former Rangers boss labelled the young winger as ‘so gifted’ back in 2018 [Herald Scotland].

Despite losing 9-0 to Celtic, clearly the result is not a reflection on Middleton as a player.

He remains a big talent because, at 22, he can and hopefully will still get a whole lot better and it’ll be fascinating to see how his own form looks in a very poor United side for the rest of the campaign.
