Dejan Kulusevski is shining at Tottenham. The Swede has hit the ground running as Spurs close in on fourth – but it has also caught the eye of former teammate Joel Asoro, who told FotbollSkanalen that he wants a reunion.
Kulusevski, 22, already has three goals and six games in 11 Premier League games. He has overtaken Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura, becoming the undisputed right side – the third component of Tottenham’s front three.
The 22-time Sweden international came through the ranks at Swedish side IF Bromma – alongside ex-Sunderland and Swansea attacker Asoro. The two combined well, but Asoro is now back in Sweden with Djurgardens IF.
Asoro has told FotbollSkanalen that he wants to play his club football alongside Kulusevski, a reunion. He almost joined Tottenham, back in 2018 The Sun says a £2.5million move only fell through due to agent demands.
“Ideally, I would like to play with Dejan, my friend. It would be fun because we played a lot together when were little.I would like to experience that again,” Asoro said, talking to Swedish website Fotbollskanalen.
Asoro on Kulusevski: Tottenham out of player’s reach, now
Unfortunately for Asoro, while Kulusevski’s career has taken an upwards spike, Asoro has gone backwards. Instead of his failed move to Tottenham, he joined Swansea – failing to score in 18. Four years later, he is in Sweden.
Asoro will have to do something excellent in Swedish football to get himself back onto the big European stage but even then – he is some way off Kulusevski. Perhaps, when the two are older, they could reunite.
But for now, it is almost impossible unless Asoro shines in Sweden and earns a move – and Kulusevski dies off. A move to Tottenham would have made things much more likely, only for agents to kill off a deal.
