Well, Cody Gakpo to Liverpool is now official.
On Boxing Day, PSV Eindhoven announced that the Reds had agreed a deal to sign the Netherlands international.
It was relatively out of the blue and suffice to say Liverpool supporters were delighted.
And now, they’ll be even happier because the transfer is official.
Last night, the Anfield outfit announced their capture of the Dutch winger and here’s how the club reacted on Instagram, a post pinned by the player himself:
Among the players to respond to Gakpo on Instagram was Noah Okafor.
The Red Bull Salzburg has been linked with a transfer to Liverpool himself in recent weeks.
And the 22-year-old wrote: “Congrats my bro“, along with a love heart and handshake emoji.
According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, as covered by HITC Sport, the Merseysiders are interested in signing the Switzerland international, too.
And with the Swiss being a striker, a position Liverpool might want to strengthen despite the addition of Darwin Nunez last summer, well it’ll be interesting to see if speculation increases over the course of the January transfer window.
For now, the supporters will be absolutely buzzing with Gakpo.
With Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz sidelined, he could go straight into Jurgen Klopp’s starting lineup and it’ll be fascinating to see how he fares.
