Carlos Mendes Gomes isn’t doing his chances of joining Rangers much harm at all, it has to be said.
The Scottish Sun reported earlier in April that Rangers had made contact over signing the 22-year-old hitman this summer.
Mendes Gomes plays for Morecambe down South and on Saturday he seemed to have an absolute stormer.
The League Two outfit recorded a 4-3 win over Oldham Athletic and the ex-Atletico Madrid youth played out of his skin.
He opened the scoring within five minutes and then completed his brace shortly after the break to make it 4-1 win, having also set up another in between his double.
Of course, Rangers won’t be signing him off the back of a good game against Oldham, but he’ll be no doubt aware of the speculation and such a performance has to endear him to Ross Wilson and Steven Gerrard, if they are genuinely interested.
This could be a bit of a bargain for the Ibrox outfit because The Scottish Sun added that Mendes Gomes is out of contract this summer, meaning he’s available for nothing.
