Everton striker Ellis Simms, who scored a great goal to salvage a 2-2 draw against Chelsea back in March, looks set to depart to the EFL Championship.

That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Coventry City are set to match Everton’s demands of £6-8 million to complete the signing of the 22-year-old.

Ellis Simms had attracted interest from other Championship clubs with Sunderland, Ipswich, and Swansea reportedly interested, but it seems that Coventry have won the race for the striker’s signature.

Simm, who only featured 11 times in the Premier League in the second half of last season, had only one year left on his existing contract.

The reported fee of around £8 million represents a good amount of money for Everton, who will be hoping to avoid another relegation dogfight this upcoming season.

Coventry will hope Simms can fire them to the Premier League

After agonisingly missing out on Premier League football with their play-off final defeat to Luton Town on penalties, Coventry will be hoping they can go one step further this time and finally reach the top flight of English football for the first time since 2001.

City have also added former Bristol City full-back Jay DaSilva to their ranks, and will hope Simms will provide the firepower that is needed, with the impending departure of Viktor Gyokeres, who looks set to sign for Sporting Lisbon.

It won’t be easy to replace the Swedish forward, who scored 17 goals in the Championship last season, but there is hope that Simms can somewhat fill that gap.

The 22-year-old spent the first half of last season on loan at Sunderland and scored seven goals in 17 games for the Black Cats, in what was a decent return. Coventry will be hoping he can repeat the trick this season.

Simms will travel to Coventry today for his medical, according to the same report from The Athletic.
