According to Dean Jones, speaking to GiveMeSport, Arsenal are interested in Ferran Torres.
The Spaniard hasn’t been a regular starter for Barcelona this season, starting just six league games so far this term, and a reported move to Arsenal could be on the cards.
Usually, when you hear a transfer rumour you try to dissect why it may or may not be true, but, to be honest, this one almost makes too much sense to be false.
Indeed, Torres seemingly ticks every single box for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
Let’s start with his role. He’s a winger who can also play as a striker – that’s precisely what the Gunners need right now.
The north London club have been on the hunt for a new winger since the summer when they had bids for Raphinha rejected, while they now also need a new striker in lieu of the injury to Gabriel Jesus.
That’s one box ticked, secondly, let’s look at his age profile.
Torres is 22 years old – that is perfect for Arsenal. The Gunners have, quite clearly, been looking to recruit younger players over the past 18 months, and Torres would, once again, fit into that ethos.
Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, let’s look at Torres’ football schooling.
As many know, Mikel Arteta’s philosophy has been moulded through his time working under Pep Guardiola as well as his days in the famed La Masia system at Barcelona as a youngster, so it certainly helps that Torres has worked under Guardiola and played for Barcelona in recent years, doesn’t it?
Yes, Torres and Arteta didn’t get the chance to work together at City, but he’ll still have learnt a lot of what Arteta is trying to do from Mikel Arteta, while a Barcelona schooling can never hurt a player’s ability to improve their tactical awareness.
That’s three key boxes ticked, simply put, Torres looks absolutely perfect for Arsenal.
