Arsenal have hope of landing Xavi Simons amid claims that the PSV Eindhoven star isn’t keen on rejoining Paris Saint-Germain.

Xavi Simons may snub a return to Paris Saint-Germain with Arsenal very interested in the PSV Eindhoven ace.

That is according to French newspaper L’Equipe, as relayed by Get French Football News.

It’s stated that Simons is now strongly against a return to PSG, who hold a buy-back clause in his PSV deal.

PSG can re-sign Simons for just €6million (£5.15million) this summer after letting him leave for the Netherlands last summer.

Simons isn’t keen though having barely been given a chance in the PSG first team before his move to PSV.

Simons doesn’t want to risk the same situation again and it’s stated that any club can now pounce to sign Simons if they match that £5.15million fee.

That’s a major bargain and Arsenal are thought to be plotting a move of their own – although PSV are offering Simons the captaincy if he stays put.

Xavi Simons to Arsenal has been talked up

Arsenal may well hope to strike a cheap deal for Simons and their hopes have been raised of late.

Simons has switched to a new agent, leaving Rafaela Pimenta in order to partner up with Darren Dein – the son of former Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein.

This situation has made headlines in the Netherlands, with reporter Jeroen Kapteijns believing that Simons joining up with Dein means a move to England is likely.

Kapteijns highlighted that Dein will have ties to English clubs and ‘especially at Arsenal’.

A move to sign Simons this summer may be a little tricky though.

Arsenal appear to be moving ahead with a deal to sign Kai Havertz, seemingly viewing the Chelsea man as an attacking midfielder.

Add in that top target Declan Rice could play as a box-to-box midfielder like Granit Xhaka and it may be tricky for Simons to play regularly.

For now, the 20-year-old may be better off staying at PSV and playing a starring role.

22 goals and 12 assists last season showed the ability Simons possesses when given a chance, and PSV will make him their star man.

That should be the focus for Simons right now, rather than potentially slipping into a squad role at Arsenal.
