All the talk about Arsenal in a transfer context has centered around Dominik Szoboszlai in recent months.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners have been in contact with RB Salzburg for years about bringing the Hungarian wonderkid to North London.
Sky Sports reported last week that Arsenal were indeed trying to sign the 20-year-old – who has a release clause of £22.5 million – in January.
And there’s been a development on this front.
The young winger, who has eight goals and 10 assists this season, has confirmed to Sky Sport Austria that he’s definitely leaving Salzburg next month.
He said: “First I have to play the last few games, then I have time to think. I will look at myself, my future and how my football career is going and make the best decision.”
But is he joining Arsenal? They’re certainly one of the clubs most heavily linked, but potentially not.
All the talk over the past few days has been Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig – part of the same family as Salzburg – signing him.
Their CEO Oliver Mintzlaff confirmed on Saturday that the German club were keen, though he added that Leipzig ‘are not the only ones‘ with an interest in signing him.
Besides, Mikel Arteta’s side are 15th in the Premier League table after scoring 10 goals in 12 games right now.
At this stage it would be a bigger deal for Arsenal than it would be for the player.
