Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil insists he is ‘focused’ on making his mark at the Premier League giants while playing down a potential return to La Liga outfit Valencia, speaking to Marca.
What more can the former Sevilla schemer do, really, as he bids to force his way into Antonio Conte’s plans in North London?
Even during the ongoing absence of Dejan Kulusevski – the most creative member of this Spurs squad – Gil has had to remain content with the odd cameo appearance here and there; the £21 million ‘Beatle of Barbate’ playing just 36 minutes of football all season.

Gil did his hopes of a first start to the campaign against Bournemouth this weekend no harm, however, with a lively performance off the bench during the frustrating 1-1 draw with Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday night.
“Gil deserves a chance to play, definitely,” former Spurs defender Pascal Chimbonda wrote on Instagram; a stance that many of a Tottenham persuasion will share following another blunt attacking performance against Ruben Amorim’s side.
Can Bryan Gil win over Antonio Conte at Tottenham Hotspur?
“I am focusing on the present, not thinking about the future. I’m focused on improving and playing as much as possible,” admits Gil, who joined Tottenham last year as part of the deal that saw Erik Lamela move to Sevilla.
“I’m working to give my best level, to do well when it’s my turn. It’s the motivation I have, to improve every day and contribute as much as possible. In England, it’s a different style of play than in La Liga; more physical, more back and forth.
“It tests me. (But) I think I’m getting better.”
The four-time Spain international fell out of favour at Spurs following the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo a year ago. He spent the second half of the season at Valencia, joining on a short-term deal from January to June.
Gil, however, makes it clear that his time the two-time Champions League runners-up is a thing of the past.
“(Valencia) is something that has already happened. Now, I have to focus on where I am,” Gil adds. “At my club, Tottenham, I give my best and forget about something that has already happened.”
