Chelsea are backing away from Tottenham Hotspur manager target Luis Enrique after recent talks didn’t go so well.

The Blues are seeking a new manager after sacking Graham Potter earlier this month.

Enrique has been a prime contender for the job alongside Julian Nagelsmann, but the Blues appear to be backing away from the Spaniard.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that Chelsea have indeed ‘cooled their interest’ in Enrique.

Romano claims that Chelsea’s feeling on Enrique is ‘absolutely different’ after holding talks with him.

Chelsea allegedly didn’t like how talks went with Enrique in terms of his demands and the Spaniard wasn’t convinced by Chelsea’s project anyway.

It’s hard to see this move being resurrected this summer and Enrique to Chelsea now looks very unlikely.

“At the moment, the internal feeling at Chelsea is that they have cooled their interest in Luis Enrique as head coach for next season,” said Romano. “It’s not over yet but, at the moment, the feeling is absolutely different.”

“The initial conversation was positive but nothing agreed. What happened is that in the last round of talks they had with Luis Enrique, Chelsea were not so happy with some of the points; also, Luis Enrique’s feeling was not the right one, and this is why – at the moment – Chelsea have cooled their interest in Luis Enrique,” he added.

Tottenham path to Luis Enrique may be clear

The news of Chelsea seemingly backing away from Enrique will be great news for Tottenham.

Spurs are looking for a new manager of their own after parting ways with Antonio Conte.

The Telegraph note that Enrique has been heavily recommended to Tottenham as he seeks to get back into management.

Enrique has been out of work since leaving his post as Spain boss after the World Cup.

Daniel Levy allegedly has some doubts over Enrique – mostly because he hasn’t managed in the Premier League – but Spurs are set to hold talks with the ex-Barcelona boss.

Tottenham have been linked with Julian Nagelsmann too but it looks more likely that he will end up at Chelsea, possibly paving the way for Enrique to Spurs.
