Tottenham kicked off their pre-season tour of South Korea on Monday with an open training session in front of a select number of fans.
Antonio Conte put his team through their paces in a session that lasted for over two hours, and courtesy of South Korean broadcaster MBC, we were able to watch the session unfold.
These pre-season training sessions can often set the tone of the season to come, and with that in mind, we’re going to recap three things we learned from watching Tottenham’s training.
Bryan Gil looks sharp
Aside from the usual suspects, there were a few standout performers during this training session.
However, perhaps the most surprising performance came from Bryan Gil.
The 21-year-old Spaniard was constantly looking for the ball, and whenever he was in possession he was looking to make things happen.
So often he was making the pass before an assist, and he very rarely took a single poor touch in the small-sided games. While he was one of the standout performers in the bleep test too.
He could have been better in front of goal during this session, but it was a very impressive outing for the youngster.
Don’t be surprised if he gets a chance in some of these upcoming friendlies.
Son is a superstar
Understandably, Tottenham didn’t fill the entire stadium as they trained at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.
However, 6,000 fans did turn up to watch Spurs practice, and many of them were there to see one man – Heung-Min Son.
Indeed, the hometown hero was a fan favourite, and it was immediately obvious just how much of a superstar the attacker is in his home country.
Fans were at their loudest whenever Son was on the ball, while the crowd were ecstatic each and every time he found the back of the net.
A lot of made of Son’s status in South Korea, and on Monday it was clear to see just how much of a superstar he is back home.
Bissouma may start slowly
While the likes of Bryan Gil and Son looked sharp on Monday. Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said of Yves Bissouma.
The Malian international hasn’t been training with Tottenham for long, and sadly, you could tell.
He did have his moments, including one brilliant run where he turned Matt Doherty inside out, but that was followed up by one of many wayward passes.
Bissouma certainly has the talent to be a star at Spurs, but this is his first time playing alongside footballers of this quality, and he may not hit the ground running.
Don’t be surprised if it takes the midfielder a few weeks to get up to speed this season.
