Pascal Struijk has admitted that he never in a million years expected Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa to give him such a prominent role in the Premier League this season.
The 21-year-old barely had any part in helping the Whites win promotion back to the top flight last term, managing only 215 minutes of football all season.
But he impressed in a big way toward the end of the year and with Leeds’ injury problems at centre-back, the towering Dutchman has been used quite a lot this time around.
Struijk has started 17 Premier League games for Leeds and it seems like he has a big future in English football, as he demonstrated in the final stretch of the 2019-20 campaign.
But the man himself has conceded that he didn’t expect to play so much in the big time, admitting that he expected only a handful of appearances.
He told LUTV: “Well, I have already achieved more than I was expecting at the start of the season. I think I said it in an interview before, I thought I was going to play three games maybe, start three games and get some minutes as a sub.”
