It’s been a very interesting week for Arsenal midfielder Mateo Guendouzi.

First, the French midfielder escaped a retrospective ban by the Football Association for grabbing Neal Maupay by the throat during the Gunners’ volatile 2-1 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion last Saturday.

Then it was reported [The Sun] that the 21-year-old ‘bragged’ and goaded the Seagulls players about the fact that they don’t earn as much as him.

And now Guendouzi – who’s on £40,000 per week – is making headlines again, and finally for footballing reasons.

According to Le10 Sport in France, Real Madrid and Barcelona might be interested in signing the former Lorient and Paris Saint-Germain youth.

The report claims that Real boss Zinedine Zidane ‘loves him very much’ as a player, and that Arsenal may also have interest from fellow Premier League side Leicester City.

The youngster joined the Emirates Stadium club two years ago for £7 million, while Sven Mislintat was pulling the strings on transfers, and he has since emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting young midfielders.

This is a worry for Arsenal because despite being a pest, he happens to also be a fantastic young player and one who the North Londoners would hate to lose at this stage of his burgeoning career.

There’s definitely talent there, and here’s what Gary Neville said on Sky Sports after last week’s defeat by Manchester City: “Since the moment he came into the team, Guendouzi, he has looked like a big character and a leader. He gets on the ball all the time, he shows great courage to play and he’s always demanding from his teammates.”
