Sheffield United and Scotland striker Oli McBurnie opened up on former team-mate John Lundstram’s move to Rangers and admits he spent every day at the Blades convincing the Scouser that his future lay at Ibrox – but admits it didn’t take much after the Englishman spoke with Steven Gerrard,
Lundstram was confirmed as the Gers’ third signing of the summer earlier this week and McBurnie knows the midfielder well having shared a dressing room with him at Bramall Lane.
After hearing about Rangers’ interest in Lundstram from the player himself, the boyhood Rangers fans got to work convincing him a move to Ibrox was the ideal one for him.
“He had mentioned the interest to me a while back and I’ve been persuading him every day since (once it was known he was leaving Sheffield United), that’s how highly I rate him,” Mc Burnie told Four Lads Had a Dream.
“To be fair, he didn’t need much persuasion because I think as soon as he spoke to the manager and realised how big the club was, he was sold. So I’m looking forward to watching him play for the Teddies.”
Lundstram won’t be coming to Rangers to sit on the bench
Lundstram’s arrival at Ibrox should send notice to the midfielders already at Ibrox that their place in the side is far from secure with the Englishman moving to Ibrox to play regularly.
That is going to mean the likes of Steven Davis, Glen Kamara and Ryan Jack are going to work even harder to keep their place in the side.
As Rangers fans wait for their first glimpse of Lundstram in action for the Light Blues, some of his teammates should be looking over their shoulder and fearing for their place in the Gers starting XI when the competitive action gets started.
