Wolves raid on Stoke City would starkly demonstrate shift in fortunes for the two clubs.

According to The Sun, Wolves are eyeing a £20 million swoop on Stoke City for Joe Allen.

Whether you believe Allen is the right player to take Wolves to the next level or not, the transfer would demonstrate a shift in power between the two clubs.

When Wolves were relegated from the Premier League in 2011/12 with just 25 points, Stoke finished 14th – gaining 20 points more.

Now Wolves have won promotion to the top flight as Championship winners with games to spare, and Stoke are on the verge of relegation.

Stoke have spent time in the Europa League during the past six years, and made big money transfer of their own, the problem is the investment has been poor.

£18 million on Giannelli Imbula, £13 million on Saido Berahino, and £17 million on Kevin Wimmer… these three deals have been disastrous and have accumulated to leave Stoke in 19th place with two games remaining.
