What a horrible return for Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst in regards to an Old Firm setting.

The Dutchman brought Rangers across Glasgow to face Celtic in a Scottish Premiership encounter at Parkhead on Wednesday evening.

However, it was an awful evening for the light Blues, who lost 3-0 to their bitter rivals.

Celtic decimated the Ibrox outfit with a ruthless first-half showing in which Reo Hatate established himself as a potential star in Scotland by scoring a couple of goals.

From Rangers’ perspective, it was a dismal performance by the Scottish Premiership champions.

One former Bhoy who took glee in their misfortune was Moussa Dembele.

Here’s what the Lyon hitman – a £20 million signing in 2018 – posted on Twitter after the defeat:

Insult to injury

Even worse for Rangers, they were leapfrogged at the top of the Premiership standings as a result of this defeat.

Van Bronckhorst’s side are now one point behind their bitter local rivals but it’s still all to play for in Scotland.

Yes this was an awful result, as it always is when Rangers emphatically lose a derby encounter, but the former Ger can still instigate a comeback.

One point isn’t insurmountable by any means and given that the light Blues already have a core of big characters and winners in the squad, they could easily still wind up successfully defending the title.
